All-rounder Ramandeep Singh was presented with the India debut cap ahead of the third T20I match between India and South Africa at the SuperSport Park in Centurion on Wednesday. Hardik Pandya gave the cap to the 27-year-old Ramandeep Singh and all the team members cheered him on for making his debut.

Growing up in the small town of Mohali in Punjab, Ramandeep Singh used to compete with his best friend Shubman Gill ‘for kicks’ to see who could face the most balls in the nets. After training at the academy, he would take throwdowns from his father Sardar Hardev Singh in the yard ground behind their home.

When he hit 700 balls every day, the count would stop. “The next day, he and Shubman Gill would compare who had faced the most balls. I used to be the throwdown specialist for Ramandeep Singh.
